Stipends for the Earth Educators' Rendezvous Events

Particular workshops are able to offer a limited number of *eligible participants stipends to help offset the cost of registration for attending their workshops in full. The following workshops have funds available, which can be used toward participants' registration costs. These stipends are offered through funding designated for these specific workshops, and thus are offered only to those who register and participate in these workshops.

All workshop stipends will be disbursed after the Rendezvous, provided eligible participants attend the sessions in full. Additional stipends will be added here if they become available. As these stipends are managed outside of NAGT, please contact the workshop leaders or the contact person designated below for additional info or if you have any questions about them.

Creating Inquiry-Based Labs for Introductory Geology Courses

Inquiry based laboratory activities in introductory geoscience courses are important opportunities to engage students. Often, laboratory activities are presented as a series of instructions and questions in a "cookbook" format that guide students to the right answer, but do not engage their curiosity or pursuit of scientific inquiry. Workshop participants will evaluate the level of inquiry in their current lab activities, identify strategies to increase the level of inquiry in their labs, and spend time collaboratively developing a suite of inquiry based lab activities for their courses. This workshop will provide all eligible* participants who are registered for the workshop with a $170 stipend (secure your spot though the Rendezvous registration form), unless they choose to waive it by contacting Rachel Teasdale. All stipends will be disbursed after the Rendezvous, provided you participate in the entire workshop.Learn more about this workshop »

Teaching for a Changing World: Water resources and melting ice

Integrating cutting edge data and quantitative skills into introductory courses can be challenging. The GEodesy Tools for Societal Issues (GETSI) project has developed a suite of undergraduate teaching modules to make this easier and more engaging. The workshop will feature two of the modules in greater depth, as well as overview additional resources, and give participants time to work on implementation planning. Eligible* participants who complete the 2-day workshop will receive a $130 stipend. Stipends are available on a first-come first-serve basis through signing up via the Earth Educators' Rendezvous registration form.Learn more about this workshop »
