I am a recent graduate from UNC-Chapel Hill with a degree in Geology, and became interested in geoscience education after doing research under Dr. Megan Plenge; I now work in the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment (OIRA). My research focuses on the effects of incorporating making-based curricula in STEM courses at the undergraduate level. I am currently investigating the relationship between marginalized student groups and their self-identified experience as a 'maker,' considering ethnographic and sociological factors, with a special interest in transfer students. I am particularly interested in the intersectionality of social advocacy, geoscience education, and hazard mitigation, especially in vulnerable populations and science-skeptic communities. Using alternative means of communication, such as art, public education, and creative nonfiction, I hope to encourage engagement in natural science by making it more accessible, relevant, and exciting for all populations
