Background Information

Linda S. Ghent is Professor and Chair in the Department of Economics at Eastern Illinois University. She completed her Ph.D. at North Carolina State University.

Linda's research interests are varied, but focus mainly on the economics of aging and the economics of gambling. Her work has been published in journals such as Industrial and Labor Relations Review, Southern Economics Journal, Public Finance Review, and National Tax Journal. She has also presented her research at national and regional economics conferences.

Linda's true passion, however, is teaching. She has won several teaching awards from her department, college, and university. She is also the author of the Instructor's Manual that accompanies N. Gregory Mankiw's Principles of Economics text. For the past several years, Linda has been using popular culture in the classroom. She has, in fact, developed a "Pop Culture Economics" course at EIU, which is taught as a senior seminar for non-majors.
